In the interview, Jan Frode Bergsø outlines a fundamental shift in how we think about IoT endpoints: most systems spend the vast majority of time in monitoring mode, consuming energy even when no useful data is being transmitted.

The solution? Offload the MCU monitoring work to a dedicated ultra-low power companion chip, like nPZero, which only wakes the host MCU when it actually needs to respond.
